Litigation / Arbitration Associate (1+ PQE)

An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a talented Litigation / Arbitration Associate to join a top-tier international disputes practice in London, with a specialist focus on international trade, energy, marine and commodities disputes.
This role is ideal for an ambitious England & Wales qualified lawyer with excellent academics and a strong grounding in commercial litigation or arbitration, who is looking to develop a niche in a highly regarded and globally significant sector.
The Opportunity
You will join a market-leading disputes team acting on complex, high-value, and often multi-jurisdictional matters. The practice is particularly well known for its work in:
- Commodity trade disputes (including oil, gas, metals, and agricultural products)
- Shipping and marine disputes (charterparty, bills of lading, cargo claims, shipbuilding)
- International arbitration (including LMAA, LCIA, and ICC rules)
This is a unique chance to transition into marine and commodities work at a leading firm, even if you have not previously specialised in this area. The team places a strong emphasis on training, mentorship, and long-term development.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting on and managing a broad range of complex disputes from inception through to resolution
- Drafting pleadings, witness statements, and submissions
- Supporting arbitration proceedings and High Court litigation
- Engaging with clients across the shipping, trading, and insurance sectors
- Working closely with partners on strategic, high-profile matters
Candidate Profile
- 1+ years’ PQE with experience in commercial litigation and/or arbitration
- Strong academic background (top-tier university and consistently high grades)
- Excellent analytical, drafting, and communication skills
- A genuine interest in developing a career in marine and commodities disputes
- International outlook and ability to work across jurisdictions
Note: Prior marine or shipping experience is not essential. The firm is keen to attract high-calibre lawyers with strong core disputes training and a desire to specialise.
