You will direct, establish, lead and govern the delivery of whole‑system railway solutions, ensuring effective integration across infrastructure, rolling stock, operations and maintenance.
Key Projects
- Amey manages and delivers railway solutions across all project lifecycles, supporting major programmes such as Northern Powerhouse Rail, Eastern Routes Partnership, Northwest & Central Framework, Core Valley Lines, Trans‑Pennine Route Upgrade, and Cardiff Crossrail.
- Opportunities include long‑term, high‑value frameworks and smaller community‑focused initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Technical specialist and subject matter expert in Systems Engineering, providing direction, guidance and supervision as appropriate to projects, the wider business, clients and suppliers.
- Hold engineering responsibility for Systems Engineering projects, ensuring commercial success.
- Direct, lead and manage the application of Systems Engineering principles to support definition, integration and delivery of complex, multi‑disciplinary rail engineering solutions, including approaches, planning, requirements, system architecture, integration, assurance, verification & validation.
- Review new standards, support development of skills and competence, develop and deliver training, lead audits and investigations.
- Prepare and review technical reports, studies and programmes of work; lead by example the application of CDM Regulations and Safe by Design principles.
- Collaborate across multi‑disciplinary project teams, share knowledge, manage conflicts and priorities, exert influence and lead by example.
- Line management responsibilities where required.
- Develop case studies, speak at conferences and CPD events.
- Lead bidding activities.
Qualifications
- Significant experience applying systems engineering within complex rail or major infrastructure environments.
- Strong knowledge of the whole railway system, its operation and maintenance, and the legislative environment.
- Experience of managing multiple stakeholders in complex project contexts.
- Strong ability to manage conflicts, priorities, influence and lead.
- Excellent communication skills, collaborative, client‑focused.
- Good knowledge of key systems engineering standards.
- Able to apply Systems Thinking and concepts across problem and solution spaces.
- Understanding of key railway legislation and standards.
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations, ROGS and CSM-REA.
- Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status; fellowship of appropriate institution or working towards.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in an appropriate engineering discipline or demonstrable equivalent experience.
