We are looking for an Engineering Duty Manager to join us on this journey. Reporting into our Engineering Manager, the Engineering Duty Manager will be part of a team primarily responsible for leading the day-to-day activities of all the airports engineering Department, delivering 24/7 support and service to the operational needs of a thriving airport. Providing essential maintenance and technical service across the airport’s infrastructure, whilst maintaining the highest safety and compliance practices.

This is a shift based role, 4 on 4 off, 2 days, 2 nights. Annual leave is pre scheduled to ensure operational consistency but we do have flexibility for emergency annual leave and shift swaps to ensure a positive and flexible work life balance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of Airport Engineers to be a high performing team; coaching, developing and empowering them to deliver a consistent and high standard of service.
  • Plan the engineering operation proactively and efficiently, managing the duty teams to deliver the brand and ensure all parts of engineering process are delivering to Bristol Airport standards.
  • Actively monitor, manage and implement department safety policies & processes to ensure the safety of your teams and others in line with regulations such as: Electrical safety, HV & LV Permitry and approvals, Permit to work, Confined spaces, Hot works and Work At height.
  • Maintain effective communications between all operational duty teams, and wider stakeholders, accurately recording activities, issues, actions taken and requirements for escalation where necessary.
  • Identify, drive and deliver continuous improvement opportunities across the Customer Journey in collaboration with the respective subject matter experts.
  • Maintain infrastructure and systems, contributing to the development of maintenance processes and controls.
  • Contribution to company wide projects working with various stakeholders across the Airport.
  • Management of Exceptional Events / Equipment failures ensuring all engineering colleagues are trained and competent in exceptional incidents and critical equipment failures.
  • Work cross functionally to manage all planned and reactive maintenance duties responding to system and equipment failures in a timely manner to sustain the Airports services, ensuring a focus on equipment availability & up time with a right first time approach to repairs to minimise downtime of critical assets including, but not limited to; HV and LV distribution systems, Airfield Assets and systems, Baggage handling systems, Emergency lighting, fire alarm, Heating, Ventilation and Air conditioning systems.
  • Providing Assessment and feedback on equipment condition, updating and completing records and making recommendations for asset improvements, replacements or cost savings.
  • Day to day management of site contractors and contractor activities including permits, audits & safety compliance.
  • Positively contribute to the Airport Operation, growth & compliance requirement with contractor management & performance against SLAs, by holding them accountable through contract ownership and management.

Skills and experience

  • HND / HNC or other recognised qualification, in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Passionate about People and experienced successfully leading a high performing team.
  • Experience with High Voltage Electrical Installations, preferably as a Senior Authorised Person.
  • Have completed a recognised apprenticeship as a Maintenance Electrician or Mechanical Engineer, whilst also being competent as a multi-skilled trade person who can carry out general maintenance trade jobs.
  • Previous experience of successfully leading and developing a team building on engagement & performance.
  • ILM or similar qualifications or equivalent experience in leadership.
  • IOSH managing Safety or Equivalent qualifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with accuracy and attention to detail both verbal and written.
  • Awareness of the need for efficient working practice and cost control.
  • A high standard of numeracy skills to enable interpretation of data to enable positive decision making.
  • Previous experience of working with automated PLC controlled equipment: Baggage, conveyor systems, Manufacturing equipment, Industrial equipment, Facilities / BMS controls.
