Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer (Water)

Working Location: UK (Hybrid)

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical design outputs in line with safety and quality requirements
• Produce calculations, drawings, and technical documentation
• Lead coordination with CAD technicians and support their development
• Manage interfaces with subcontract design teams (including M&E)
• Prepare scopes and review third-party design outputs
• Engage with suppliers, review tenders, and support equipment selection
• Produce reports, specifications, and design investigations
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards and engineering practices
• Manage design changes and ensure accurate documentation
• Support estimation and planning of design activities
• Attend and present at technical and client meetings

Requirements

• Experience in mechanical design within the UK water sector
• Exposure to both clean water and wastewater projects (infrastructure and non-infrastructure)
• Experience with hydraulic design and associated calculations
• Knowledge of schemes such as UMON or similar upgrade programmes
• Understanding of construction methods and engineering drawing practices
• Chartered Engineer (or working towards)
• Strong technical, communication, and problem‑solving skills
• Experience supporting or mentoring junior engineers or techniciansDegree, HND, or equivalent experience
