Murphy are currently recruiting for a Principal Design Engineer to join our award-winning team. Our team is known for its extensive in-house expertise and continual drive to innovate within the industry. The Principal Design Engineer will provide safe, practical, and economic designs for internal clients to a high standard of professional competence and in compliance with Company procedures.

Covering a range of industry sectors including water, energy, and power; Murphy Applied Engineering provides specialist engineering support in the following disciplines: Mechanical, Geotechnical, Process, Surveying and both Permanent and Temporary works within Civil and Structural infrastructure.

A day in the life of a Murphy Principal Engineer:
- Responsibleforthedaytodaymanagementanddevelopmentofateamofengineers
- Responsibleforthedeliveryofalltechnicaldrawingsandreportsforthedetaileddesignphaseoflinearinfrastructureprojects(steeltransmissionpipelines&plasticductsforHVcables)
- Responsiblefordeliveryofconstructabilityreportsassociatedwithlinearinfrastructureprojects
- ResponsiblefordeliveryPre-FEEDandFEEDstudiesassociatedwithmajorpipeline/HVpowercableinfrastructureprojectsintheUK,
- TechnicalsupporttoplannersandestimatorsduringFEEDstudies
- Checkingandapprovingoftechnicaldesignreports
- Projectreportingandcoordinationofdesignactivitieswithintheengineeringteam
- Representthedesigndepartment,whennecessary,atinternalandexternalmeetings
- Undertakesitevisitswhenrequired,
- Accuraterecordingoftimespentonprojectsandmanagementofteamworkloads,
- Coachandmentorindividualstaffmemberswithprofessionaldevelopment,
- Supportthebidteamswithtechnicalinputintotendersubmissions&developdesignestimatesforinclusionintheoverallsubmission
- TechnicalinputintoTrenchlessCrossingDesigns(HDD’s,Microtunnels&AugerBores)

- FamiliarwithNationalGasstandardsfortransmissionpipelinesaswellasotherUK,EUandInternationalstandards(E.g.PD8010,BSEN14161,BSEN1594etc)
- FamiliarwithUKandinternationalstandardsforplasticpipes
- Construction&designexperienceassociatedwithlinearinfrastructureprojects&trenchlesscrossingdesigns
- ExperienceundertakingPre-FEED,FEED&detaileddesignassociatedwithmajorlinearinfrastructureprojectsintheUKaspartofthegovernmentsnetzerotargetsfor2050.
- Experienceofconsentrequirementsassociatedwithrail(NWRFormA,B&C),road(CD622)andwatercoursecrossings(EA)ispreferred
- Knowledgeandunderstandingofconstructionplant&equipmentusedtoinstallsteelpipelinesandplasticcableducts,
- FamiliarwithgeospatialanalysissoftwaresuchasArcGISorQGIS
- Excellenttechnicalreportwritingskills,
- SomeawarenessandunderstandingofenvironmentalrestrictionsintheUK.
