Job Description:

As a Breeze Event Officer working in a small team you will oversee the management and delivery of a number of child friendly events and festivals, you will thrive on being in the middle of our events programme having the opportunity to bring to life fun, safe, engaging and creative programmes and events that make Leeds the best city for children to grow up in.

Job Purpose: To manage the development and delivery of fun and safe family friendly events throughout the year within budget.

Responsibilities

  • To lead key projects and events in the Breeze Team
  • To contribute to the development of the Breeze Team’s offer including the Healthy Holidays Scheme, Halloween scare event, The Christmas Experience, and private AAE and corporate bookings.
  • To support the recruitment and training of casual event staff, setting excellent standards to ensure the workforce provides the best experience for young people and families in Leeds.
  • To direct and supervise the work of event/project workers and volunteers.
  • To manage budgets assigned to events and projects in accordance with Leeds City Council’s financial regulations.
  • To create, complete, and submit the appropriate reports and funding documents to ensure projects and events run to budget.
  • To liaise with a range of partners both internal and external to the council, meeting the aims and objectives of the Breeze Team while supporting the council’s ambition to be the best city for children to grow up in.
  • To liaise and engage with a range of stakeholders, maintaining strong and effective communication channels.
  • To support communication and attend relevant meetings and briefings, including those involving businesses, ward members, community committees, voluntary and statutory agencies, and community groups.
  • To undertake any other duties which may be assigned from time to time and that are commensurate with the grade of the post.
  • To undertake the accountabilities of the post in accordance with council policies, including the Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety policies.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience of writing and implementing event action plans and schedules.
  • Knowledge and experience in writing risk assessments and safe operating procedures.
  • Experience of driving a range of vehicles.
  • Experience of leading elements on large‑scale events.
  • Experience of preparing and writing reports and evaluations.
  • Educated to degree level or professional vocational or postgraduate qualifications within the events industry (or a relevant subject/area). Candidates must evidence their right to work in the UK before employment.
  • A degree or equivalent qualifications in a relevant discipline or extensive experience in events or a related field.
  • Method of assessment will be through one or more of the following: Application Form, Test, Interview, or Certificate.
  • Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of organisations.
  • Able to work to a budget.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver on time.
  • Ability to prioritise across multiple areas of work.
  • Ability to work at a strategic level.

  • Knowledge of the role of Breeze in the city and the work it undertakes.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety, including SOPs and risk assessments.
  • Understanding of the benefits of engaging in cultural activities.
  • Knowledge of IT software applications relevant to working on events and projects.
  • Knowledge of processes to manage projects.
  • Experience of working in outdoor events or related fields.
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines and under pressure.
  • Experience of working at a management level.
  • Experience of liaising with public, private, and voluntary organisations/agencies.
  • Experience of managing and motivating staff.
  • Experience of leading and managing projects and events.
  • Experience of working unsocial hours and weekends.
