Business Support and Planning Manager Role Profile

The Policy Manager (Consultation and Grid) will play a central role in shaping ICAEW's external voice by managing the process of high‑quality consultation responses and ensuring consistency of messaging across the organisation through the management of ICAEW's 'grid'. This role will coordinate policy content and communications across all areas of the Institute, ensuring ICAEW's voice is timely, authoritative, and has impact with its engagement with government, regulators, parliament, and other stakeholders.

Business Support and Planning Manager Responsibilities include:

• Lead the process for managing ICAEW's responses to government, regulatory, and parliamentary consultations.
• Coordinate input from technical experts, members, committees, and policy colleagues to produce authoritative, well‑argued submissions.
• Manage the ICAEW "policy and comms grid" of messaging, publications, announcements, and events, ensuring alignment across departments.
• Develop and maintain ICAEW's key policy messages, ensuring clarity and consistency across outputs.
• Support Public Affairs colleagues by providing policy content for political and regulatory engagement.

Business Support and Planning Manager Candidate Profile

Requirements include:

• Exceptional experience in policy development, ideally within a membership body, regulator, trade association, or professional services environment.
• Proven ability to draft and review clear, persuasive, and evidence‑based consultation responses.
• Excellent organisational skills with experience of managing cross‑organisational coordination.
• A high level of communication skills, both written and verbal, with attention to accuracy and consistency.
• Ability to build collaborative and positive working relationships across teams and manage competing priorities.
