About the Role
The Assistant Director plays a pivotal leadership role at the Ithaca College London Center, partnering closely with the Director to deliver a transformative study abroad experience. This position blends strategic operations, student support, financial stewardship, and hands‑on problem solving in a dynamic international education environment. The Assistant Director helps shape a vibrant academic and cultural program that fosters experiential learning, global citizenship, civic engagement, and lifelong learning. As a key leader on site, this role ensures the smooth day‑to‑day functioning of the London Center while providing thoughtful guidance and care to students living and studying abroad.
Leadership & Reporting
The Assistant Director reports to the Director of the London Center and works with Program Coordinators, supervising work‑study students. In the Director’s absence, the Assistant Director serves as the senior on‑site leader.
What You’ll Do
Operational & Financial Leadership
- Collaborate with Director in key operational decisions, including staffing, budgeting, and facilities planning.
- Oversee the full London Center budget, managing financial transactions such as bill payments and faculty and staff compensation, handling petty cash when necessary, reporting and compliance.
- Prepare clear, accurate bi‑monthly financial reports to support responsible fiscal management.
- Develop and maintain systems for proper use of program funds.
Student Experience & Pastoral Care
- Act as a trusted advisor and primary pastoral resource for Ithaca College students studying in London.
- Support student wellbeing by responding to concerns with empathy, discretion, and sound judgment, and by making appropriate referrals to support services when needed.
- Assist students with navigating the American Travel Insurance system for visits with partner doctors.
Program Development & Cultural Engagement
- Coordinate Ithaca College trips and collaborate with the Program Coordinator to bring academic and cultural programming to life.
- Organize theatre performances, music events, class excursions, and site visits that enrich the academic curriculum.
- Plan and deliver special events that strengthen community, celebrate learning, and enhance the student experience.
- Participate in all‑school field trips and excursions.
Faculty Collaboration
- Work closely with faculty to support class‑related activities, including guest lectures, academic excursions, and experiential learning opportunities across London and beyond.
Facilities & Technology Oversight
- Lead capital improvements and technology renewal projects in coordination with the home campus IT department and local vendors.
- Ensure classrooms and office spaces are functional, welcoming, and well‑maintained, troubleshooting basic technology issues as they arise.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Support health and safety planning to maintain a safe, compliant working and learning environment in accordance with applicable guidelines and regulations.
- Share responsibility with the director for the out‑of‑hour emergency phone.
Team Leadership
- Supports and collaborates with Program Coordinators in all aspects of duties.
- Supervises work‑study students, orientation and training, scheduling, and assigning tasks, and weekly time‑card approval.
- Provide steady leadership and decision‑making in the absence of the Director.
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Legal authorization to work in the United Kingdom.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least three years of experience in study abroad, international education, or educational administration.
- Familiarity with UK Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) regulations as they relate to college students.
- Strong ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with databases, spreadsheets, and word‑processing software.
