Role

Role: Financial Crime Project Lead (Upstream Data Lead)

Location: London, Northampton, Glasgow, Manchester

Role Overview

As the Upstream Data Lead, you will join a team responsible for Transaction Monitoring (TM), TM Risk, and Screening—covering both customer and payment/sanction risk. Your primary focus will be the oversight and governance of the transaction journey, from the point of a cash deposit into a sundry account through to the data warehouse and the subsequent enrichment layer used for monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Oversight: Address the shift in accountability where business areas and managers must now attest that data journeys are being tracked.
  • Control Framework: Create layers of oversight that allow Accountable Executives (AEs) and Managers to attest to data integrity with confidence.
  • Gap Analysis: Identify issues where data is missed or incorrectly categorized, leading to improper monitoring.
  • Proactive Monitoring: Establish controls to ensure issues are identified proactively rather than discovered post-event, reducing the need for remediation.
  • Strategy & Planning: Understand existing data flows, engage with relevant stakeholders, and develop a comprehensive plan to close existing governance gaps.
  • Change Management: While you will define the requirements and the plan, long-term technical deliverables may be handed off to internal teams for execution.

Requirements

  • Expertise in upstream data governance within a financial crime context.
  • Ability to navigate complex transaction journeys and data enrichment layers.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills to drive alignment across business areas.
  • Experience in building control environments for regulatory attestation.
