Overview

If you’re practical, curious, and ready to build a long‑term career in engineering, this Modern Apprenticeship offers a rare opportunity to learn, earn and grow within a leading food manufacturing environment in the Highlands. You’ll be joining an employee‑owned business with over 30 years’ heritage, known for its commitment to quality, sustainability and developing its people.

This is a structured three‑to‑four‑year programme delivered in partnership with a local college, combining hands‑on engineering experience with recognised qualifications.

What the Apprenticeship Involves

In your first year, you’ll be based full‑time at college completing:

  • SVQ Level 2
  • National Certificate in Engineering Practice

From year two onwards, you’ll move into the workplace to complete:

  • SVQ Level 3, supported by regular assessor visits and on‑the‑job training

Throughout the programme, you’ll work under supervision to develop the skills, confidence and technical understanding needed to support a busy food production environment.

What You’ll Be Doing (Under Supervision)

You’ll gradually build your engineering skills by supporting the team with:

  • Maintaining and repairing production equipment, learning how to diagnose issues and carry out safe, cost‑effective fixes
  • Supporting planned maintenance and responding to breakdowns, developing confidence in fault‑finding
  • Checking and monitoring machinery performance, helping improve reliability and efficiency
  • Understanding how production processes work, contributing to high‑quality products and smooth operations
  • Working safely and professionally, following all Health & Safety, food safety and hygiene procedures
  • Developing a broad engineering skillset, working across both sites and learning how to use tools, complete records and support daily engineering tasks

Who This Is For

You’ll thrive here if you’re:

  • Practical, hands‑on and keen to learn
  • Interested in engineering, problem‑solving and how things work
  • Reliable, safety‑conscious and able to follow procedures
  • A good communicator who enjoys working as part of a team
  • Motivated to build a long‑term career in a growing industry

No previous engineering experience is required — just the right attitude, commitment and willingness to learn.
