Data Engineer | Hedge Fund | London

We are working with a lean but successful and growing hedge fund in London. They are currently looking to hire a motivated and proactive Data Engineer that has experience of building data pipelines from scratch. The ideal candidate will have strong technical foundations, enjoy working with complex datasets, and be motivated by seeing their work directly influence investment decisions. This is a smaller hedge fund so has the benefits of being in a central team whilst being very much in the business, collaborating with PMs and analysts to provide a database for market and alternative data which can be accessed across the entire business. The team you would be working closely with is fixed income (rates) focused, so exposure to these products is desired (but not essential). This will suit a proactive individual with the motivation to take the lead on everything involving data within a hedge fund.

Guidelines:

• Experience across the entire data lifecycle, from identifying and sourcing new data sets through to making data intuitive to use for Portfolio Managers
• Strong programming skills in Python (experience with Pandas, NumPy, or similar libraries).
• Strong experience with SQL and relational database technologies.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines for both market and alternative data.
• Collaborate with front office stakeholders to improve data access and quality.
• Manage data ingestion from external vendors, APIs, and internal trading systems.
• Optimise database performance and ensure data integrity across environments.
• Support the ongoing evolution of the firm’s data platform and analytics tools.
• Buyside experience is very desirable but will consider exceptional candidates from a banking background.
• Experience – circa 4-9 years of relevant experience.
