Overview

This 8‑week work experience placement is designed to provide a practical, structured introduction to cyber security within a large global professional services organisation. You will gain exposure to how cyber and information security operates in a real‑world business environment, supporting both UK and EMEA activities, and working closely with the Cyber Security team.

The placement is designed to be educational and developmental, balancing observation, hands‑on support, and guided learning. It does not require prior cyber security experience, only an interest in technology, security, and how businesses manage cyber risk. This will be based from our London Lombard Street office and will be regularly on site. The start date is 1st June and this is a paid internship.

How you’ll make an impact

The Global Cyber & Information Security (GCIS) team is responsible for protecting Gallagher’s information, systems, and technology estate against cyber threats. The team works across regions and business units, partnering closely with IT, legal, risk, compliance, and business leadership.

What the Internship will offer

With an educational focus, you will gain exposure to cyber security fundamentals and how security supports the wider business. The placement will include shadowing across key security functions, including the Security Operations Centre (SOC), Security Engineering & Architecture, and Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC). Activities may include:

  • Shadowing the SOC: observing how alerts are triaged, how investigations are approached, and how incidents are escalated and documented.
  • Shadowing Security Engineering & Architecture: learning how security controls are designed and implemented, and how secure‑by‑design principles support technology change.
  • Shadowing Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC): gaining exposure to risk management, policy and standards, and how security supports regulatory and client requirements.

About You

  • Studying towards a degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of cyber security principles (e.g. malware, phishing, access control).
  • Fantastic attention to detail and analytical thinking.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues in plain English.
  • Familiarity with security frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, or CIS) would be useful but is not essential.
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements relevant to financial services (e.g. GDPR).
  • Interest in cloud security, identity management, or security operations.
  • Experience using Microsoft technologies (Azure, M365).
