Infection Prevention and Control Lead

The Manor Hospital in Bedford is part of Circle Health Group, Britain’s leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics. The hospital performs more complex surgery than any other private provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for an Infection Prevention and Control Lead to join their IPC department. This part‑time role involves 22.5 hours per week with a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of This Role Include

  • You ensure IPC is addressed in all areas of the hospital and reflected throughout all activity related to healthcare provision.
  • You ensure infection prevention is considered in new business, new build, and refurbishment projects.
  • You ensure compliance with the HCAI code (DH 2010) for CQC requirements in England and equivalent standards for hospitals in Scotland and Wales.
  • You develop, with the senior person responsible for IPC (Director of Clinical Services) and with approval of the HIPCC, an annual program aligned to the HCAI code and the Circle Health Group National IPC annual program.
  • You ensure compliance with mandatory IPC training and other measures required to reduce HCAIs.
  • You ensure all staff have appropriate IPC training using a combination of online and face‑to‑face training.
  • You undertake role‑specific competencies and learning, ensuring 100% compliance of all relevant mandatory training within Learning Space timescales.
  • You ensure compliance with the company infection screening and immunisation policies and are familiar with IPC policies such as hand decontamination, PPE, aseptic techniques and safe sharps disposal. All staff must challenge non‑compliance and provide feedback to appropriate line managers if required.

Applicants Should Meet The Following Criteria

  • Registered Nurse (or other registrant profession such as Operating Department Practitioner).
  • Teaching and assessment qualification such as ENB 998 (or equivalent).
  • Post‑graduate qualification in IPC (e.g., PGCert minimum; PGDip or MSc working toward).
  • Specialist knowledge sufficient for the hospital.
  • Able to apply specialist knowledge to risk assessment and support appropriate controls.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Previous experience in an IPC role and delivering IPC information to staff.
  • Ability to provide or support staff in feedback of microbiological results.
  • Good attention to detail.
