Overview
Cheshire East Council is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Accountancy Technician to support financial operations and ensure effective financial management across service areas. This role involves technical financial tasks, budget preparation, reporting, and supporting decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare budget estimates for revenue and capital budgets
- Collate and analyse financial data for reports and ad-hoc queries
- Identify and report variances against financial targets
- Maintain financial systems, records, and audit trails
Analysis & Compliance
- Support statutory financial returns and ensure compliance with policies
- Conduct financial research, transaction analysis, and investigations
- Assist in identifying inefficiencies and recommending improvements
Team Support & Supervision
- Supervise Accountancy Assistants and Finance Trainees
- Ensure adherence to financial procedures and best practices
- Support efficient and effective team operations

Qualifications

Knowledge & Experience
- Strong understanding of financial practices and procedures
- Knowledge of accounting standards and relevant legislation
- Experience using financial systems and Microsoft Office tools
Skills
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Ability to interpret and present financial data clearly
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
- AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification or equivalent
- Knowledge of local government finance
- Audit and risk management understanding
- Supervisory experience
