Accounting Manager (SUMITOMO ELECTRIC U.K. POWER CABLES LTD.)

Desired start date: June 2026. Location: Preferred in Glasgow, occasional UK project travel.

Overview

The Accounting Manager will oversee the company’s financial and closing‑of‑books operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with UK GAAP/IFRS. The role involves managing day‑to‑day accounting operations, tax compliance, and providing financial analysis to support strategic decision‑making.

Responsibilities

• Oversee month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end closing processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
• Review monthly financial and management reporting.
• Monitor day‑to‑day financial operations such as invoicing, payment, and other transactions.
• Manage local statutory accounting and tax filings (Corporate Income Tax, Consumption Tax).
• Adhere to financial regulations and legislation.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting staff.
• Act as primary point of contact for external auditors and tax advisors.
• Streamline accounting processes, enhance internal controls, and implement system improvements.
• Maintain control environment (monthly balance sheet reconciliations, P&L reviews).
• Develop risk‑minimising strategies.
• Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures.
• Coordinate with regional/global FP&A, Treasury, and Legal teams on transfer pricing, intercompany transactions, and reporting.
• Work with other departments to prepare budgets and carry out related tasks.
• Develop long‑term business plans based on financial reports.
• Provide advice on future business decisions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years experience in a similar role.
• CA/CPA qualified accountant.
• Experience in planning and management reporting.
• Sound technical and practical knowledge of accounting and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
• MSDD365 FO experience (preferred).
• Professional accounting qualification (CPA or CA).
• Experience working in a Japanese company (preferred).
