A fast-growing, well-capitalised bank is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join its UK Finance team. Operating across retail banking, SME lending and banking services, the organisation has moved from build to growth and is now focused on strengthening financial control, reporting quality and scalable processes.
The Role
This is a broad, hands‑on role spanning financial control, reporting and finance operations. You will act as a key partner to the Financial Controller, supporting month‑end close, ensuring robust controls, and contributing to process improvement in a regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead month‑end and year‑end close activities in line with IFRS and regulatory standards
- Maintain general ledger integrity and oversee balance sheet reconciliations
- Support statutory reporting and external audit processes
- Contribute to financial modelling (e.g. IFRS 9, IFRS 16)
- Execute core finance operations (AP, AR, cash) with strong control discipline
- Partner on tax compliance (corporation tax, VAT, etc.) with external advisors
- Strengthen internal controls and drive automation and process improvements
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with Treasury, Risk, and Operations
- Support and mentor junior team members
Requirements
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
- Experience in banking, financial services, or a regulated environment
- Strong IFRS knowledge and financial reporting experience
- Hands‑on month‑end, reconciliations and audit support experience
- Solid Excel and data skills; experience with accounting systems (e.g. Dynamics/BC)
- Comfortable using modern tools (e.g. AI tools) to improve efficiency
- Detail‑oriented, organised, and able to operate at pace
- London based (3 days a week in office)
- £70,000 - £80,000 + discretionary bonus based on performance
