Role Description
This is a full-time role for a Financial Controller based in Loughton, Essex. The Financial Controller will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounting records while ensuring full compliance with HMRC requirements and applicable accounting regulations. Oversees the day-to-day management and development of the finance team, supporting senior leadership including the CFO and CEO. Ensures company policies are consistently followed and drives continuous improvement of finance department processes. Additionally, contributes to the automation of financial operations to enhance efficiency, reporting, and business intelligence capabilities.

Working life
- Working hours: 09:00am – 5:30pm
- Holiday entitlement: 30 days including public holidays

- Salary between £55,000 - £65,000
- Up to £75k OTE
Responsibilities:
Finance Team:
- Ensure the finance team have an effective way of working this includes utilising technology
- Assess the training needs of the team in terms of IT or accounting regulations
Month End:
- Prepare & run a month end timetable for closing the month & running management reports
- Ensure there is a full reconciliation of the balance sheet placed on the month end file for review by the CEO
- Ensure the classification of sales and costs in the P&L are appropriate
Finance Policies:
- Ensure these are followed by all members of the company
- Continually review and make suggestions to the CEO/CFO on the policies so that the company’s resources are protected
- Agree with the Accountants what taxes the company is liable to pay
- Ensure that the CEO/CFO has a working grasp of all relevant taxes
- Aim to keep the organisation compliant with these taxes
- Ensure that the finance team havethe awarenesstoassistwithmaintainingthis compliance
Reporting:
- Agree with theCEO/CFOwhat reports arerequiredon a daily/weekly or monthly basis
- Ensure these reports are produced ona timelyandaccuratebasis
- Analyse negative variances and interrogate with associated budget holder
- Set up departmental P&L to understand which sales teams are driving GP
- Ensure the purchase ledger is run effectively
- Ensure that the sales ledger is run effectively and debts are managed
- Ensure the payroll is run effectively
- Ensure routine HMRC returns aresubmittedcorrectly and on time
- Agree cash collection targets with the CEO/CFO for each month an strive to meet these targets
- Agree cash expenditure targets with the CEO/CFO for each month and keep expenditure within the target
- Ensure all bank accounts are reconciled daily
- Ensure all transaction are processed no later than the following working day
- Ensure the company’s accounting software is properly administered
Security & Record Keeping:
- As necessary ensure that members of the finance team have only the system access they need
- Ensure sensitive passwords are changed by agreement with the CEO/CFO on a regular basis
- Ensure there is a backup of all finance data offsite
- Ensure that all finance records are kept for at least 6 years
