Do you have experience of strategic leadership in public health? Could you work within an innovative and dynamic team to deliver long-term health and wellbeing priorities?
Are you passionate about tobacco control and cardiovascular disease prevention?
Buckinghamshire Council is looking for a Public Health Principal to join the Public Health team. The salary for this role is £69,113 to £76,388 per annum, dependent on experience.
About us
Buckinghamshire Council is an innovative and high performing organisation, and public health is embedded in the Council’s core business. Public health is defined as “the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through the organised efforts of society”. The Public Health workforce delivers a range of work to protect and improve the health of communities and populations at local, regional, national, and global levels.
Buckinghamshire is generally more affluent and has better health outcomes than the national average, but significant differences in health outcomes exist across the County. Rather than focusing on the health of the individual, the Public Health workforce delivers a range of work to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of local communities, with particular focus on reducing inequalities.
About the role
The Public Health Principal for tobacco control and cardiovascular disease will be responsible for providing expert leadership to strengthen the governance and pace of delivery of an ambitious prevention agenda. Working with a dynamic team, this role will lead county‑wide tobacco control and smoking grant programmes, NHS Health Checks, and wider CVD prevention initiatives, working closely with system partners across the local authority, NHS and Integrated Care Board. This is an excellent opportunity to influence population health outcomes, reduce health inequalities, and drive impact at scale across Buckinghamshire.
We are looking for a senior public health professional with strong strategic capability, experience of leading complex prevention programmes and a passion for tobacco control and cardiovascular disease prevention.
Support is available for you to continue your professional development within the team. This role is expected to be a full-time post, with an approximate 40% WTE commitment to office-based work.
About you
You are an experienced public health professional with substantial programme/project management experience and a proven record of achieving results and delivery. You have good knowledge of local government and/or the NHS and experience of commissioning public health programmes, particularly relating to tobacco control and/or cardiovascular disease prevention.
