Acute Medicine Specialty Doctor

An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic clinician to join our team in Acute Medicine at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comprises Warrington Hospital (570 beds) and Halton Hospital (community beds). The Emergency Department (ED) at Warrington serves a population of over 310,000 people; it is open 24 hours daily and sees 85,000 new patients per year. There are a wide range of specialties on site including medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology. Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospital has been rated ‘Good’ in its most recent CQC inspection.

Acute Medicine at Warrington Hospital offers the opportunity to work on a dynamic, fast paced 36 bedded Acute Medicine Unit and Same Day Emergency Care Unit with an Acute Medicine follow up clinic.

The Specialty Doctor pathway within Acute Medicine that we have designed allows you to develop your skills and competencies within Acute Medicine with the opportunity to enter the Specialist Register for Acute Medicine via the Portfolio Pathway (formally known as CESR) Route.

Main duties of the job

The Specialty Doctor will form part of the senior doctor presence within the Acute Medicine Team working across all areas within Acute Medicine including the Acute Medicine Unit, Same Day Emergency Care Unit, and Acute Medicine patients within ED. The Speciality Doctor will provide senior support to more junior members of the team, reviewing patients both independently and working closely with Acute Medicine Consultants to ensure timely review and discharge of patients. The Specialty Doctor will support with training and education within Acute Medicine, delivering teaching sessions as part of the weekly Acute Medicine Teaching Programme. The Specialty Doctor will take an active role in service development and Quality Improvement Projects to improve patient care and safety.

This post offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated qualified doctor with experience of clinical practice to deliver high quality, effective clinical care in a busy modern District General Hospital. Applicants must be on the GMC register with a Licence to Practice.

  • GMC Registration
  • Desire to maintain knowledge and skills by ensuring to keep up to date with relevant updates to guidelines
  • Completion of an audit cycle/QIP to demonstrate competence

Experience

  • Minimum 12 months experience of a Medical Specialty
  • Minimum 6 months NHS experience working as a doctor in a medical specialty
  • Experience working in multiple medical specialties within the NHS at minimum SHO grade
