Stronghold Preservation Ltd are a long-established company within the construction sector based outside Magherafelt in Mid Ulster. With expertise in building preservation, structural works & waterproofing, their works also include the inspection & survey of buildings & structures, providing survey reports, design and specification of recommended works, provision of specialist advice and installation of specialist systems.
The Role
The Estimator will be responsible for estimating and securing contracts, sourcing and procurement of materials for contracts and measurement of completed contracts & final account presentation. The Estimator will work collaboratively with all surveyors & technical teams to manage quality pricing submissions whilst trying to maximise profitability with an awareness of commercial risk and completion of projects on time and on budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Pricing of tenders with a robust understanding of first principle pricing and unit rate application
- Field enquiries from contractors, architects, engineers and other clients in a helpful and knowledgeable manner
- Understanding of the requirements under different forms of Design & Build Contracts, including JCT and NEC, with consideration of commercial risks and mitigation solutions.
- Accurately cost in‑house technical specifications to produce material quantities
- Comprehension of detailed drawings, Bills of Quantities and tenders to enable accurate measurement of quantities
- Negotiate rates and prices with material manufacturers, suppliers and sub‑contractors ensuring engagement with quality & commercially sensitive partners. Ensure sub‑contractors are evaluated in line with company Health & Safety policies and insurance considerations
- Source and procure materials and plant to the correct specification in line with estimated costs to enable the timely completion of contracts within budget
- Assist in the production of all client amendments to specifications, valuation of all variations and production of final accounts & documents
- Contract variance analysis of labour and materials used on completed projects to ascertain contract financial performance
- Presentation of pricing & tender submissions to senior management for pre‑submission appraisal including related commercial risks & opportunities
- Ensure efficient hand over process of successful bids to operational teams including schedule of works used to build and cost the project plan
The ideal candidate would be:
- Technically strong with a good understanding of the construction industry, detailed knowledge of roofing works and historic buildings would be an added advantage
- Self‑motivated and able to work on their own initiative
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Computer literate with proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to negotiate and high regard for customer satisfaction
- Committed and enthusiastic, working on own initiative
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Highly analytical, organised & dedicated
- Ability to work flexible hours as required and be prepared to travel within Ireland & UK
- Clean Driving License
