Location: Plymouth, fully on-site

Salary: Up to £45,000 + benefits DOE

iO are partnered with a major engineering organisation supporting safety‑critical maritime programmes, and they’re looking to add a Naval Architect to their team in Plymouth.

You’ll play a key role in the ongoing support and development of waterfront infrastructure and floating assets, helping to ensure operational readiness in a highly regulated defence environment.

Role Requirements

  • Managing through‑life support for floating assets (surveying, specifying refit/repair packages, and supporting delivery)
  • Overseeing post‑refit inspections/acceptance and ensuring compliance with relevant standards
  • Reviewing periodical surveys and coordinating follow‑up actions
  • Producing design estimates, schedules, tenders, and monitoring costs against delivery
  • Supporting development of future waterfront assets and infrastructure specs with key stakeholders
  • Applying technical knowledge around vessel construction, repair standards, survey/NDE techniques, and design assurance
  • Degree in Naval Architecture (or another relevant engineering discipline) or significant practical experience in ship maintenance / waterfront facility management
  • Experience with ports/harbour facilities and working in complex operational environments
  • Proficient with AutoCAD (or similar design software)
  • Strong organisational and communication skills (multi‑stakeholder, safety‑critical environment)
  • Analytical, proactive problem‑solving approach; comfortable working across through‑life support / refit & repair activities

To be considered, you’ll need to be a sole UK national and eligible to obtain and maintain NNPPI security clearance.
