The role involves the design, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of refinery regulatory and control multivariable optimisation (APC) applications. It also includes providing technical and operational support for advanced process control strategies, DCS control strategies and process automation systems.
Primary Responsibilities
- Seek opportunities to improve refinery throughput, yield or energy use through APC, optimisation and process automation.
- Lead feasibility studies and capital/expense approval processes for small projects.
- Prepare documentation for Management of Change (MoC) packages and lead multidisciplinary reviews.
- Monitor, troubleshoot and improve basic controller loop performance; advise Instrument Technicians on field equipment issues.
- Develop effective product property correlations and maintain automated lab sample biasing systems.
- Deliver user‑friendly, accurate, up‑to‑date documentation and effective training to Process Technicians and Process Engineering.
- Align APC optimisation strategies with production planning aims and refinery‑wide pipeline.
- Monitor and address APC effectiveness via KPIs (e.g., 95% uptime, frequent operator interventions).
- Perform APC application lifecycle management, including constraint set reviews, KPI reviews and software obsolescence.
