Project Engineer - CRE Civils (Temp Works)

The Access for All (AFA) portfolio plays a vital role in making Britain's railway stations more inclusive and accessible for everyone. Working in partnership with Network Rail and the supply chain, the AFA portfolio delivers a nationally significant programme of enhancements focused on step‑free access, lifts, footbridges and associated station infrastructure, improving the experience for passengers with reduced mobility and supporting wider social value outcomes across the network.

Through a collaborative and integrated delivery model, our Access for All teams bring together design, engineering, construction and assurance expertise to safely develop and deliver complex station enhancement projects in live operational railway environments. As the programme continues to grow, we are strengthening our engineering capability to support successful outcomes across multiple projects and stakeholders.

As a result, we are strengthening our project engineering capability by recruiting a Project Engineer (Contractors Responsible Engineer – CRE) to support the safe and compliant delivery of Access for All station enhancement works. Using our hybrid working policy, you'll work from home, multiple sites you will help oversee, and client offices.

The Purpose Of The Role Is

As a Project Engineer (Contractors Responsible Engineer – CRE), you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day engineering leadership of Access for All station enhancement projects, reporting to the Engineering Manager (CEM) and ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of works within live operational railway environments.

You will lead engineering activities in accordance with Network Rail Engineering Standards, ensuring that design, construction and commissioning activities are planned, coordinated and delivered to meet CDM Regulations and applicable asset standards.

The role requires the implementation of project‑specific Engineering Management Plans and the effective coordination of multidisciplinary station works, including civils, structural, building, M&E, Telecomm, lift installations, E&P interfaces and associated permanent and temporary works.

You will act as the primary engineering interface for the project, providing technical guidance and mentoring to site teams, designers and subcontractors, managing design assurance and change control, and ensuring safe systems of work are embedded throughout the project lifecycle.

Through proactive risk management, constructability reviews and close collaboration with the CEM, Project Manager and wider stakeholders, you will support the successful delivery of inclusive, safe and high‑quality station accessibility solutions that minimise passenger and operational impacts.
