Manufacturing Engineer / NPI Process Engineer

Manufacturing Engineer required for a long‑term contract in Peterborough (minimum 12 months, likely to become ongoing).

Pay: £35.00 FCSA Umbrella (Role is deemed inside IR35) or £25.50 PAYE.

Work setting: Office based, 5 days per week in Peterborough.

The Manufacturing Engineer is expected to act as a specialist in a specific technical phase of a substantial increase in production over the next 12–18 months, primarily within Assembly of Machinery.

Work assignments may be specialized or broad in nature, requiring coordination with other staff to complete larger projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating projects to define desired outcomes and determine logical approaches.
  • Assessing NPI factors such as cost, assembly, equipment, space, etc., to determine requirements.
  • Preparing feasibility studies for appropriateness and cost‑effectiveness, then submitting recommendations.
  • Contributing to management decisions regarding processes, methods, machinery, tools, equipment, services, and systems needed for product manufacture.
  • Developing, analyzing, and managing Manufacturing/Assembly/NPI Projects.
  • Demonstrating experience in planning, increasing work capacities, and navigating significant production growth in a short timeframe.
  • Implementing Process Improvement, Process Optimisation, Design, Development, and Manufacturing Systems.
  • Leading projects that significantly increase production volume and managing related activities.
  • Supporting Design for Manufacture best practices, Operation Excellence, Process Validation, Lean Operation, and Manufacturing best practices.
  • Engaging in creative problem solving to address operational issues such as efficiency improvements, bottlenecks, and quality concerns (APQP/PPAP experience desirable).
  • Working with internal and external suppliers to develop and manage projects for efficient, cost‑effective systems and processes.
  • Overseeing procurement, processing, installation, and capability of new fabrication, material handling, and test equipment.
  • Designing, developing, and integrating manufacturing systems including scheduling techniques, simulation, and systems applications.
  • Coordinating, planning, monitoring, and reporting activities related to flow analysis, design, financial modelling, and implementation of complex manufacturing group technology cells.
  • Coordinating the purchase and application of machine tools, controls, and related equipment company‑wide to ensure modern technology is adopted for efficiency and economy of operations.
  • Supporting the design of complex or intricate jigs and fixtures.

Essential Skills

  • Previous experience in Manufacturing of high‑value, low‑volume products.
  • Demonstrable experience in NPI Planning, increasing work capacities, and managing production growth.
  • Experience in Process Improvement, Process Optimisation, Design, Development, and Manufacturing Systems implementation.
  • Strong project management experience with proven projects that significantly increased production volume.
  • APQP/PPAP interpretation and recommendations related to workforce/labour allocation.
  • Record of process improvements and optimisation.
  • Knowledge of tooling, plant engineering, supplier relationship building, releasing, machine shop, fabrication, and assembly as required.

This role is inside IR35 and offers a pay rate of £35 per hour FCSA Umbrella, depending on experience and qualifications, with PAYE also available (approximately £25.50).
