To meet our growing UK business needs and future development aspirations we are looking for a Design Lead to join our Lighting & Energy Solutions team, ideally based in our Birmingham offices, though this role could be based in any of our UK offices.
This role supports our Strategic Road Network lighting team within the Highway sector, providing the opportunity to work on significant projects based on the National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF) framework contract and on high‑ways maintenance projects across North‑West, Eastern and Southern National Highway regions.
As Design Lead you will support National Highways in delivering projects for the SDF Framework and assist the Lighting Team Leader with delivery quality control and assurance.
A typical week
You will be required to assist with document control for all documents received and issued from the SDF Team Leaders for the North‑West, Eastern or Super South regions. Duties will include:
- Managing general day‑to‑day project administration tasks
- Stakeholder Support
- Supporting the Project Manager with procurement – purchase orders and invoicing
- Managing project charge codes, monitoring, programming and management of delivery programmes
- Assisting the Project Management team with project reviews and outcome reporting
- Producing lighting designs using Lighting Reality Design or similar software
- Preparing MCHW specification and supporting documentation
- Conducting asset clash detection and resolving clashes at BIM Level 2 (desirable)
- Developing risk assessments and design decision documentation
- Site visits for checking road lighting and lit signage assets and feeder pillars (G39 and ECS card desirable)
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate
- Achieved minimum of EngTech and working towards registration with the Engineering Council (EngTech, IEng or CEng)
- Proficiency in Lighting Reality Design Software and AutoCAD
- Strong electrical design and operations knowledge and understanding
- Competency and experience within a lighting design project
- Desirable: experience of considering environmental factors in highway lighting design
- Ability to support junior members of the design team
- Good understanding of the design and implementation of central management system technology
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility and prioritisation skills
- Experience working within the highway sector
- Fluent spoken and written English with solid IT skills
