Overview

Senior Design Engineer | Automotive | Heavy Engineering | Bespoke Machinery

Location: North Wales | Full-Time | Permanent

The Opportunity

We're supporting a well-established and growing manufacturer who are looking to appoint a Senior Design Engineer to play a key role in their expanding engineering team. This is a hands-on, lead design role where you'll have real ownership of products, projects and engineering decisions – ideal for an engineer who enjoys seeing designs progress from concept through to manufacture and real-world use. The role would suit someone with experience in vehicle conversion, truck/wagon design, structural assemblies, automotive, aerospace, off-highway, rail or bespoke machinery.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading design activities on current and future products.
  • Producing conceptual and detailed 3D designs and manufacturing drawings (SolidWorks or similar).
  • Designing across chassis, suspension, axles, structures and welded fabrications.
  • Supporting prototype builds, validation, testing and continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring designs meet internal standards, regulatory requirements and design-for-manufacture principles.
  • Working closely with manufacturing, purchasing and test teams to ensure smooth product delivery.
  • Playing a key role in new product development and influencing internal engineering processes.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven mechanical design experience within one or more of the following:
  • Automotive
  • Trailers & transport
  • Heavy engineering
  • Agricultural/off-road
  • Aerospace, rail or bespoke machinery
  • Strong understanding of structural design, load paths and static/dynamic loading (finite element experience beneficial).
  • Proficient in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor or similar).
  • Experience with some or all of the following:
  • Welded fabrications
  • Cast and machined components
  • Hydraulics and mechanical linkages
  • A confident communicator who enjoys taking ownership and driving projects forward.

Why Join?

  • Work on real, physical engineering products – not just conceptual design.
  • A high-impact role with visible influence over design direction and new product development.
  • Stable, growing business with long-term career development.
  • Strong engineering culture with no micromanagement.

Interested? If this sounds like a role you'd be open to exploring or if you'd like to hear more about the company, salary package, or progression opportunities, simply reply with a good time for a confidential call. If the role isn't right for you but you know someone who may be interested, feel free to pass this on.

Kind regards,

Steph
