Overview

We’re hiring a Field Service Engineer to join a leading UK provider of physical security systems (gates, barriers, blockers, turnstiles).

This is a hands-on field role suited to engineers with experience working on larger machinery, agricultural equipment, or PLC-controlled systems, alongside strong mechanical capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, service and repair security systems (gates, barriers, blockers, turnstiles)
  • Fault-find across mechanical and basic electrical/PLC systems
  • Attend breakdowns and support reactive maintenance
  • Participate in on-call rota (1 in 5 → 1 in 6)
  • Complete digital job reports and liaise with clients on-site
  • Travel regionally with occasional overnight stays

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical engineering background (essential)
  • Experience with larger machinery / plant / agricultural equipment / PLC-controlled systems
  • Basic electrical knowledge (e.g. 3-phase, 24v systems, 18th Edition desirable)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors and in confined spaces
  • Based within Chelmsford or surrounding areas
  • Flexible for travel, overtime and weekends

Mandatory Security & Clearance (Non-Negotiable)

  • Right to work in the UK (documentation required)
  • 5 years continuous UK residency
  • 5 years continuous employment history (fully traceable)
  • No criminal convictions
  • OR hold a British passport

Package

  • £38k–£40k basic
  • Uncapped overtime (1.3x weekdays + weekends)
  • On-call allowance
  • Company van, tools, PPE, phone
  • 22 days holiday + BH (rising to 25)
  • Full training + progression
