Mechanical Maintenance Engineer c£37k + Bonus

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a well‑established engineering and manufacturing company in Cambridgeshire. This is a varied, hands‑on role within a busy factory environment, working on a wide range of production and fabrication machinery.

This position would suit a practical engineer who enjoys fault‑finding, preventative maintenance and keeping production running efficiently. While some basic electrical knowledge is useful, the role is primarily mechanically focused.

Permanent position | Fully onsite / car required to get to the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and repair of site machinery including mills, lathes, drills and sheet metal fabrication equipment
  • Planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown support
  • Installation and assembly of new machinery and equipment
  • General site maintenance including basic electrical work and plumbing
  • Supporting continuous improvement and quality engineering standards across the site
  • Working with hand tools, polishers, heaters and general workshop equipment

Skills & Experience Required

  • Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent hands‑on training
  • Recognised engineering qualification (City & Guilds, BTEC or similar)
  • Mechanical maintenance experience within manufacturing, engineering or heavy industry
  • Strong mechanical fitting and fault‑finding skills
  • Experience working with machine shop equipment (milling, turning, lathes)
  • Basic electrical knowledge advantageous but not essential
  • Proactive, practical and reliable approach

Salary & Benefits

  • £18.50 per hour (approx. £37,500 salary) + Annual company performance bonus
  • Regular overtime available (paid at 1.5x)
  • 20 days holiday + bank holidays (rising to 26 with service)
  • Company pension Life assurance

Working Hours (39 hours per week)

  • Monday: 7:30am – 4:00pm
  • Tuesday: 7:30am – 4:30pm
  • Wednesday & Thursday: 7:30am – 5:00pm
  • Friday: 7:30am – 12:00pm (early finish)
