Job Title: Locum Consultant in Adult Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia
Location: The Royal Brompton Hospital
The Royal Brompton Hospital, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, is seeking to appoint a full‑time Consultant in Adult Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia. The post is a replacement post.
Applicants must be fully registered Medical Practitioners and be on the GMC’s Specialist Register in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.

Main Duties
This clinical role is divided between attending theatre and catheter laboratory clinical anaesthesia and peri‑operative assessment and care as part of a team‑based approach.
The post holder will provide clinical services in Anaesthesia in accordance with clinical and legal requirements and in keeping with the international role of the Trust.
The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the adult anaesthesia on‑call rota, but only after considerable orientation and depending on previous experience.

Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive anaesthesia services in Adult Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia.
- Attend theatre and catheter laboratory procedures; provide peri‑operative assessment and care.
- Contribute to the adult anaesthesia on‑call rota after orientation and based on experience.
- Take on additional roles in areas such as echocardiography, research, education and training where possible.
Qualifications and Experience
- Essential skills, knowledge and abilities: Clinical skills required for Adult Anaesthesia; active involvement in governance and audit; interpersonal and communication skills aligned with the Trust’s Core Behaviours.
- Essential experience: At least 12 months in Adult Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia as an advanced trainee/fellow.
- Essential qualifications: Full GMC registration; basic trans‑oesophageal echocardiography training; FRCA or equivalent.
- Desirable: Understanding of service development; experience in trans‑oesophageal echocardiography; on Specialist Register or within 6 months of eligibility at interview; UK, European or American qualification in trans‑oesophageal echocardiography; higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent).
