At Capgemini Engineering, a world leader in engineering services, we bring together a global team of engineers, scientists, and architects to help the world’s most innovative companies unleash their potential.
Your Role
We are seeking an exceptional Manufacturing Engineering Consultant with system‑architect level expertise to join our team supporting a critical Defence client in the North of England. This role is central to enabling the Model‑Based Engineering vision for our client, providing leadership across CAD/CAM, Manufacturing Process Planning and Manufacturing Execution, and embedding a disciplined, best‑practice Manufacturing Engineering integration. You will act as a guiding technical authority and trusted advisor, shaping how digital product definition is created, structured, governed and consumed from engineering through to shop‑floor execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and advise on the adoption and implementation of Model‑Based Manufacturing methodologies.
- Architect CAD/CAM solutions that maintain design intent, enable downstream reuse, and support a true digital thread from engineering through manufacturing.
- Define standards, governance and best practices for model‑based definition and manufacturing feature creation.
- Design and implement robust BOM and manufacturing process planning structures within PLM Teamcenter and SAP environments, developing complex data models that support manufacturing operations while maintaining alignment with engineering design data.
- Architect and implement Manufacturing BOM (MBOM) and Manufacturing Process Planning structures within PLM Teamcenter and integrate with SAP where appropriate.
- Define robust data models that align engineering BOMs, manufacturing BOMs and process plans, supporting enterprise‑scale manufacturing operations.
- Lead process‑planning strategy, including structure design, configuration management and lifecycle governance.
- Bridge engineering and manufacturing domains to ensure planning data is accurate, traceable and execution‑ready.
- Lead the definition and implementation of Manufacturing Execution approaches that deliver prescribed, 3D model‑rich method information to the shop floor.
- Shape how MES (or MES‑adjacent solutions) consume model‑based definition and support MBE‑driven execution.
- Ensure execution solutions are practical, usable and aligned with real manufacturing behaviours.
Qualifications
- Demonstrable consultancy experience to identify, articulate and solve key strategic problems for clients.
- Exceptional problem‑solving capabilities with the ability to provide innovative manufacturing solutions at an enterprise scale while managing technical risk.
- Extensive experience (10+ years minimum) in manufacturing engineering with system‑architect level expertise in Model‑Based Manufacturing methodologies and implementation.
- Mastery of NX CAD/CAM software, including advanced functionality for complex manufacturing operations.
- Knowledge of PLM Teamcenter architecture for manufacturing process planning.
- Expertise in Computer‑Aided Process Planning and BOM management at an enterprise level, including data structure design, process flow optimisation and system integration.
- Understanding of Manufacturing Execution Systems architecture, implementation strategies and integration methodologies across diverse manufacturing environments.
- Deep understanding of Aerospace and Defence (or adjacent) industry manufacturing requirements, compliance considerations and security protocols.
- Executive‑level communication skills with demonstrated ability to present complex technical recommendations to client leadership and influence strategic decision‑making.
- Experience conducting manufacturing systems gap analysis, developing strategic improvement plans and leading implementation initiatives.
- Proven track record in evaluating, selecting and implementing manufacturing software solutions that deliver measurable business value.
