A leading London-based higher education institution is seeking an experienced Energy & Carbon Manager to lead the decarbonisation of a diverse, multi-campus estate as part of its journey toward Net Zero by 2030.
This is a high-impact, technical leadership role responsible for shaping and delivering energy and carbon strategy across a complex portfolio of buildings, supporting long-term sustainability, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Energy & Carbon Management Strategy, ensuring alignment with institutional net zero targets and sustainability policies
- Take ownership of energy, water, and utilities management systems, including metering, monitoring, and reporting
- Identify and deliver carbon reduction and energy efficiency projects across the estate
- Analyse consumption patterns, identifying peaks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
- Manage utilities contracts, budgets, procurement, and supplier performance
- Oversee and develop BMS and sub-metering systems, ensuring accurate reporting and data integrity
- Integrate low-carbon and energy-efficient design principles into refurbishment and new build projects
- Support development of energy policies, specifications, and technical standards
- Work closely with sustainability, estates, capital projects, and external contractors to deliver decarbonisation objectives
- Promote awareness and engagement around energy use and carbon reduction across staff, students, and stakeholders
- Provide technical expertise on energy legislation, compliance, and best practice frameworks
About You
We are looking for a technically strong and collaborative energy professional with:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Energy Management, Building Services, Environmental Science or similar
- Proven experience in energy and carbon management within a complex estate or large organisation
- Strong knowledge of BMS, metering systems, utilities management, and energy monitoring tools
- Understanding of UK energy and carbon legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience managing energy budgets, contracts, and procurement processes
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and deliver data-driven decarbonisation strategies
- Strong communication skills and experience working across multi-disciplinary teams
- Knowledge of ISO 50001 / ISO 14001 systems
- Experience with PPAs, energy procurement strategies, and funding schemes (e.g. Salix)
- Experience delivering energy business cases and heat mapping exercises
- Understanding of higher education or public sector estates
