The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) is a Sino‑foreign university offering a UK style education. The campus, established 22 years ago, has grown to over 10,000 students. UNNC seeks an ambitious academic with passion for teaching and research in Urbanism.

Location

Ningbo, China.

Salary

RMB 450,190 to RMB 592,815 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver individual and collaborative research and teaching in Urbanism, with focus on Urban Development, Smart Cities and Sustainability.
• Generate new intellectual understanding, develop ideas for application of research and teaching outcomes.
• Design and deliver courses in Sustainable Urbanism Project, Smart Cities, Advanced Innovations in Cities and Urban Systems and Techniques.
• Lead major research projects as principal investigator, spearhead funding bids and develop innovative methodologies.

Required Expertise

• Leading urbanism studios that blend theory with project‑based learning.
• Knowledge of Sustainable Urbanism (low‑carbon design, climate adaptation), Smart Cities (digital twins, AI‑driven planning) and technical tools (GIS, CIM, urban analytics).
• Integration of research with teaching, mentoring students in methodologies such as life‑cycle assessment and scenario planning.
• Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration across urban design, policy and technology to advance global sustainability goals.

Qualifications

• PhD degree in a closely related field.
• Proven experience in teaching and curriculum development within higher education.
• Growing national or international reputation, demonstrated by a strong publication record.
• Strong communication skills, clear explanation of complex concepts to diverse audiences.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and innovative learning environment.

Benefits

Fixed‑term contract of up to 5 years, starting September 2026 or as soon as possible. Contract may be extended by mutual agreement. Attractive package including employment support allowance, schooling and insurance for international appointments.
