Are you looking to build your compliance career in an international, mission-driven organisation? Do you have a strong interest in data protection, privacy, and governance and want to apply your skills to a cause that protects our oceans and the future of seafood? Then this opportunity might be for you!
At the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), our mission is to end overfishing and safeguard seafood supplies for future generations. As our Compliance Specialist, you’ll play a key role in supporting the delivery of our global compliance activities, with a particular focus on data protection and privacy across our international operations.
You’ll be involved in practical, hands‑on privacy work, including supporting DPIAs, maintaining the Record of Processing Activities, assisting with DSARs, and working closely with our external Data Protection Officer. Alongside this, you’ll support wider compliance activity such as coordinating statutory filings and maintaining governance records across multiple jurisdictions.
This is an operational and advisory role focused on delivering and coordinating compliance and data protection activities, rather than setting strategy or holding formal regulatory accountability. It is suited to someone who has moved beyond entry-level roles and is looking to take the next step in their compliance career.
The role requires confidence, sound judgement, and the ability to manage defined pieces of work independently, while knowing when to accelerate or seek guidance.
This is a great opportunity to take ownership of day-to-day compliance and data protection processes, working closely with senior colleagues, and to contribute to an organisation with genuine global impact.
If you’re ready to use your compliance and data protection expertise to support a global mission with real‑world impact, we’d love to hear from you.
If this has inspired you, please send your CV and a covering letter to Curtis Kay with Hays – Curtis.kay@hays.com
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences who share our passion for safeguarding the oceans.
We’re an international organisation and our employees all demonstrate a level of cultural awareness, and value the diverse views and approaches relevant to the MSC program.
The MSC is committed to flexible working. The successful candidate will need to work from the London office for a minimum of 50% of their working time each month. The remaining time can be worked from home.
Please be aware, we are only able to progress with candidates who already have the right to work in the location specified in this advert. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer visa sponsorship at this time.
The MSC’s vision is for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life, and seafood supplies safeguarded for this and future generations. Today, the impacts of overfishing and climate change pose an even greater threat to the ocean and fish stocks. Through our internationally recognised certification and ecolabeling program, well‑managed sustainable fisheries are recognised and rewarded throughout the seafood supply chain. Over 700 fisheries around the world, representing 19 % of the annual global marine catch, are now engaged in the MSC program and MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 66 countries. Through partnerships and collective endeavour, we are on a mission to end overfishing.
Direct applications to this vacancy are not being accepted. Please see advert text for information.
