Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

  • Taking ownership for the successful delivery of projects/programmes, giving leadership and direction to the team, effectively communicating with all parties, identifying and managing the risks, planning and progress monitoring, development and implementation of appropriate project controls.
  • Building strong and effective relationships with our clients through active engagement to really understand their needs, operating as a trusted advisor to help achieve their objectives.
  • Working with and managing other WSP teams in the multidisciplinary project/programme environment.
  • Working with and managing supply chain suppliers, including both sub-consultants & contractors, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
  • Optimising the resource balance, across the project/programme, and ensuring all deliverables and milestones are achieved on time and to the right quality.
  • Monitoring and reporting of project/programme finances and reporting both within the business and to the client in a clear and productive manner.
  • Working with a range of stakeholders both internal and external to identify solutions, share best practice and to drive the best outcomes for your projects and/or other projects across the programme.
  • Acting as a role model and mentor for other project management staff within the wider business, while also actively contributing to the development and knowledge sharing within our Portfolio, Programme, and Project Management (P3M) community of practice.
  • Championing excellent health and safety practice and lead project management commissions to achieve safe, sustainable and efficient outcomes that meet agreed objectives.

  • A Business Management System (ISO‑9001, ISO‑14001, ISO‑44001, ISO‑45001) providing a full suite of tools and processes aligned to APM, to support delivery of the full project management lifecycle

Qualifications

  • Proven experience of project management at practitioner level across multiple projects at the same time with complex reporting structures.
  • Proven experience in managing both project delivery and commercial performance, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget while optimising financial outcomes and driving value for the business.
  • Experience leading or working as part of a high performing team, with the ability to influence and motivate others with different levels of experience and skills.
  • Experience working either as a client, consultant or contractor, in public and/or private sector environments delivering complex projects/programmes.
  • Understanding and practical experience of delivering projects/programmes within a structured project control process.
  • Hold a relevant project management qualification e.g. APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ).
  • Robust project management skills with a track record for the successful project delivery, ideally within a transport, public sector, or high‑risk environment. The capability in managing proposals and bids, including comprehensive bid planning, efficient resource coordination, and high‑quality proposal writing.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage complex matrix environments, effectively coordinating and collaborating with multiple subject matter experts and stakeholders across various functions to ensure alignment.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with proven experience in building rapport and trust with colleagues, clients and key stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; able to influence, engender commitment to deliver on a purpose and engage with people.
  • Able to challenge and constructively probe and offer an alternative perspective in discussions whilst being able to comfortably present ideas and views.
  • A proven ability to work collaboratively within real and virtual environments, sharing information and engaging the right people to make decisions in an effective and timely manner.
  • Work with our clients to help them with their challenges (client driven/cross selling) to deliver their services in a better environment.
