Job Overview

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Digital Project Manager to join our Digital Delivery Team and support the delivery of a portfolio of digital transformation projects across the Trust. The role involves end‑to‑end delivery of projects, managing plans, risks, governance and ensuring value for money while supporting the Trust’s digital maturity and a single digital patient record.

Responsibilities

  • Project Delivery
    • Provide formal project management leadership.
    • Lead projects from proposal, through initiation, delivery/implementation, and onto sustained business as usual.
    • Put in place and maintain detailed delivery plans for each project.
    • Work closely with the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for each project.
    • Direct resourcing of digital project support staff as necessary.
    • Deliver projects in line with Quality Improvement (QI) principles, the agreed programme lifecycle, and Trust standards.
    • Maintain project management best practice and use improvement tools.
    • Lead identification of and collaboration with specialist resources (IT, Business Intelligence, etc.).
  • Benefits Management
    • Define, track and support delivery of benefits with the SRO.
    • Work with finance to include benefits in Cost Improvement Plans (CIPs).
    • Track monetisable non‑cash savings and all non‑financial benefits.
  • Reporting, Assurance and Governance
    • Provide assurance that projects are effectively established.
    • Ensure clarity in governance arrangements, timelines, resource requirements, risks, benefits and outcomes.
    • Define and report on key indicators, measures and metrics demonstrating impact.
    • Ensure consideration of quality and equality impacts.
    • Escalate risks and issues and develop remedial plans.
    • Produce routine and ad‑hoc reports to support communication of progress, highlight issues and risks.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Change Management
    • Engage clinicians, service managers, senior leaders and others across the organisation to design solutions and support adoption.
    • Lead change management work to enable front‑line teams to understand and diagnose issues, develop solutions.
    • Provide continuity in leadership to support change with clinicians.
  • Staff Management
    • Possibly line‑manage project support staff depending on programme requirements.
    • Plan for risks to project support resource.

Person Specification

Training and qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Experience as a manager in the NHS at band 6 or above.
  • Project management qualification at Foundation level (e.g. PRINCE2 Foundation) or equivalent.
  • Familiar with improvement methodologies such as QI, LEAN, Six Sigma, PDSA.

Desirable criteria – Training and qualifications

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification.
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner or other recognised project management methodology (e.g. Agile, Lean).
  • Formal IT qualification.

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Managing technical or complex digital projects from initiation to transition into business as usual, ideally in NHS or similar organisation.
  • Proven track‑record of delivering measurable benefits.
  • Understanding of technical aspects of implementation such as interfacing and testing.
  • Problem‑solving experience and ability to support others.
  • Experience working with a range of clinical, operational and corporate stakeholders.
  • Experience facilitating and managing change within healthcare organisations.
  • Understanding of clinical and non‑clinical healthcare processes.

Desirable criteria – Experience and knowledge

  • Experience managing complex projects in an acute NHS Trust.
  • Experience managing a team of people to deliver outcomes.

Skills and Ability

Essential criteria

  • Good verbal and written communication skills in complex, difficult, or uncertain environments.
  • Ability to assimilate complex, multidisciplinary information and develop practical solutions.
  • Good presentational skills – prepare written reports and present information to senior leaders and clinicians.
  • Experience in maintaining core project documentation (briefs, implementation plans, risk logs, closure reports).
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise effectively and deliver agreed outcomes to timescale.

  • Portfolio demonstrating delivery of sustainable change and measurable benefits.
