Project and Business Change Manager

This role is a permanent position within the Strategy and Delivery team, supporting customers by managing multiple ICT projects aligned to local and national digital strategies. The successful candidate will deliver projects using proven project methodologies (PRINCE2 and agile/hybrid approaches), ensuring timely delivery within scope, budget and quality standards.

Main duties of the job

Managing projects through their full lifecycle – from Project Initiation to go‑live and closure – including planning, scheduling, resource coordination and monitoring progress.

Business change management: engaging stakeholders across local health communities, facilitating change, ensuring user adoption, developing stakeholder engagement and communication plans, coordinating training and acting as a change agent.

Providing regular updates and reports to Project Boards and senior management, managing risks, issues and dependencies, ensuring alignment to digital transformation goals and NHS strategic objectives.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Demonstrates understanding of the use of information, the NHS national health agenda and other informatics related national strategies and policies
  • Has understanding of the role and importance of health informatics
  • Knowledge of current health and social care agenda
  • Demonstrates developed and effective knowledge of current business change and benefits realisation methodologies
  • Specialist knowledge of the application and use of IT in the NHS and its strategic application
  • Knowledge of all stages of information management and technology development projects from business analysis to implementation and benefits realisation.
  • Understanding of the NHS structure, services and strategic agenda
  • Knowledge of information governance guidance and legislation
  • Knowledge of the Cranfield Benefits Management Methodology and its application within ICT enabled change programmes
  • Workshop facilitation

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level. In possession of or working towards to Masters degree level or equivalent professional qualification
  • In possession of the PRINCE2 Project Management Foundation Qualification
  • In possession of or working towards ECDL Advanced or MOST Expert or equivalent qualification
  • Some experience of formal project management underpinned with a programme of continuing professional development
  • MS Project
  • MS Office (Office 365)
  • MS Visio
  • ECDL Advanced Word & Excel or willing to undertake
  • In possession of the PRINCE2 Project Management Practitioner Qualification
  • MOST Master

Experience

  • A minimum of 1 year Project Management experience in an IT setting and 2 years in IT
  • Delivery of complex programmes of work using the PRINCE2 methodology
  • Some managerial experience
  • At least five years overall experience of working in an operational capacity in a health care setting, with at least three years experience at a senior level within their healthcare profession
  • Experience of managing significant change to a service within a healthcare operational environment
  • Experience of managing the change and realisation of benefits within a project structure
  • Proven advanced communication skills and an ability to communicate highly complex information clearly and concisely to stakeholders with varying degrees of understanding. Proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to prioritise and organise workload
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse group of professionals to very large groups
  • Strong team leader with an ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to motivate staff, colleagues and stakeholders within a project
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Workshop/events facilitation
  • NHS or other public services background

Contractual Requirements

  • Ability to work flexibly, outside normal office hours, in order to suit the needs of the users
  • Ability to travel in order to deliver presentations at point of need
  • Clean driving licence and use of car
