Location: Manchester
Job Description:

OnBuy is an online marketplace with a mission to be the best choice for every customer, everywhere.

Working at OnBuy

We are a team of driven and motivated people who thrive when working at pace. To succeed at OnBuy you need to take charge, fully own your responsibilities, roll up your sleeves when needed, and stay focused and prioritise ruthlessly. You will thrive in an ever‑changing environment as we are constantly evolving.

About the Role

As our Operations Data Analyst, you will help drive efficiency, reliability, and customer experience across OnBuy. You’ll work closely with Sales, Seller and Product teams to turn data into actionable insight, monitor performance against key SLAs, identify bottlenecks and root causes, and influence day‑to‑day and strategic operational decisions at pace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Sales team to support the acquisition and onboarding of new sellers, identifying gaps in assortment and tracking early seller performance to inform commercial and operational decisions.
  • Work closely with the Seller team to improve seller retention and engagement, using data to diagnose performance issues, highlight optimisation opportunities, and maximise seller value to OnBuy.
  • Collaborate with the Customer Support team to understand customer pain points, identifying friction across key journeys that drive complaints, escalations, or poor service outcomes.
  • Own and develop operational dashboards and self‑serve reporting, ensuring teams have timely, trusted insight that is actively used to manage day‑to‑day performance.
  • Conduct deep‑deep and root‑cause analysis into operational issues, translating findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Proactively monitor operational performance and risks, surfacing issues early and helping teams prioritise where to act.
  • Communicate insights clearly and confidently to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, influencing prioritisation, process change, and decision‑making.
  • Collaborate closely with the wider Analytics team and Data Engineers to share best practice, improve data foundations, and contribute to the broader analytics strategy.

Experience & Skills

  • Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related analytical field.
  • 1–2 years’ experience in an analytics, reporting, or data analyst role, ideally supporting an operational team.
  • Strong SQL capability, including complex joins, CTEs, and window functions, with the ability to extract insight from large, imperfect, multi‑source datasets.
  • Proven ability to partner closely with stakeholders, translating operational needs into clear, actionable analysis that supports strategic and day‑to‑day decision‑making.
  • Comfortable operating in a high‑demand environment, managing competing priorities and taking ownership of business‑critical operational reporting.
  • Ability to document metrics, definitions, and data sources to support shared understanding and self‑serve analytics.
  • Experience using Looker Studio or a comparable BI tool to build, maintain, and improve dashboards and self‑serve reporting.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a strong focus on data quality, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Interest in building scalable, repeatable reporting rather than one‑off analyses.
  • Basic working knowledge of Python or another scripting language for analysis or automation.
  • Experience with dbt or a similar transformation tool.
  • Familiarity with Git or version control best practices.
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics or other digital analytics platforms.

The salary on offer for this role is £35,000 – £45,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Benefits

  • Company equity – ownership in the business we are all working to grow.
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • One extra day off for your birthday.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Opportunities for career development and progression.

This role is UK remote; if you prefer coming into the office it can be hybrid if you live near our Manchester or Bournemouth offices.

OnBuy is an equal opportunities employer. We are dedicated to creating a fair and transparent workforce, starting with a recruitment process that does not discriminate on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, gender reassignment, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, disability, or age.
