Chronos Energy are looking to recruit a Regional Operations Director for our client for their Midlands/North territory.

The Regional Operations Director provides strategic leadership and oversight of a major regional portfolio of energy infrastructure and decarbonisation projects, each valued at up to c.£50m. Operating as a senior leader within Energy Services, the role carries full accountability for ensuring the safe, compliant and high‑quality delivery of complex programmes across Midlands and the North of England.

You will hold full P&L ownership for regional operations, leading the end‑to‑end lifecycle from early design development through to construction, commissioning and handover. You will set the strategic direction for project delivery, ensuring your portfolio is delivered with robust commercial discipline, operational excellence and unwavering focus on safety, quality and performance.

As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will shape divisional priorities and influence the strategic growth of the business. You will lead and inspire a high‑performing multi‑disciplinary regional team, while maintaining senior oversight of major subcontractors and delivery partners. Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, you will drive effective governance, enhance delivery capability and ensure the successful execution of all projects within your region.

You will report directly to the Managing Director, acting as a trusted advisor and providing clear, data-driven insight on operational performance, risk management and opportunities for future growth.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Strategic & Commercial Leadership

  • Provide senior leadership and full accountability for the regional P&L, ensuring commercial discipline while maximising financial performance and long‑term sustainability.
  • Lead the strategic planning and execution of major capital projects across the region, ensuring alignment with growth ambitions.
  • Identify, shape and convert future opportunities through proactive client engagement and relationship development.

Operational Delivery Excellence

  • Oversee the full project lifecycle from early-stage design and development through construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, compliantly, on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
  • Establish robust delivery strategies, resource plans and project governance frameworks that strengthen operational performance.

QSHE Leadership

  • Provide senior oversight of all QSHE activity across the regional portfolio, ensuring full compliance with UK legislation and standards.
  • Champion a proactive, positive safety culture and drive continuous improvement in risk management

Governance & Reporting

  • Establish and maintain rigorous governance, reporting and control mechanisms across the regional portfolio.
  • Provide clear, data‑driven insight and recommendations to the Managing Director on operational performance, risks and strategic opportunities.

Team & Stakeholder Leadership

  • Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing regional team, fostering a collaborative culture built on accountability, performance and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain strong oversight of supply chain partners, ensuring capability, performance and commercial alignment.

Knowledge, Skills, Education & Experience

  • Demonstrable experience operating at Director level within a main or principal contractor environment.
  • Experience in healthcare decarbonisation
  • Track record of delivering technically complex design and construction programmes, including significant M&E components in live environments.
  • Experience in energy performance contracting and decarbonisation projects (preferred).
  • Strong leadership capability with experience managing large multidisciplinary teams and subcontractor ecosystems.
  • Proven commercial acumen with full P&L responsibility and deep understanding of NEC and JCT contracts.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Eligible to live and work in the UK; valid driver’s licence required.
  • Clean and valid DBS check.

Preferred Experience, Qualifications & Training

  • Degree in construction, engineering or related discipline.
  • APM qualification and active membership preferred.
  • Experience developing internal processes, governance structures and operating models within a growing business.
