About the Role

We are seeking a commercially driven and well-connected Business Development Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting AP’s growth in the Lloyd’s and wider London insurance market.

This role requires a strategic thinker with exceptional interpersonal skills and a deep understanding of the insurance industry and market dynamics within the Lloyd’s ecosystem.

The role focuses on building strategic relationships, developing new business opportunities, and ensuring successful delivery across key accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and grow AP Companies’ Lloyd’s and London Market portfolio
  • Identify potential clients and new business opportunities, and develop strategies for business growth. Build and expand relationships with insurers, brokers, coverholders and managing agents
  • Actively network and represent AP Companies at industry events, conferences and market meetings
  • Negotiate terms and conditions and structure commercial agreements, including annual retainers, to ensure profitable returns, utilising AP Companies’ full range of services
  • Increase case volumes across new and existing clients, leveraging AP’s Delegated Claims Administrator (DCA) status
  • Engage with cross-functional departments and teams to effectively manage the business process and ensure that proposals and SLAs are delivered successfully and meet expectations
  • Oversee and support account management to ensure strong client retention and growth
  • Support the development of operational processes and training aligned with Lloyd’s requirements and client expectations

Essential skills and experience: 

  • Proven experience in business development, partnerships or client-facing commercial roles
  • 3–5 years’ experience within the Lloyd’s / London Market, preferably in Assistance, TPA or A&H / Travel
  • Strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage senior stakeholders confidently
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design effective strategies and tailor solutions to client needs
  • Ability to manage schedule and prioritise tasks based on urgency and business needs
  • Tech-savvy, with the ability to leverage digital tools effectively
  • In-depth knowledge of medical assistance, TPA models and the Lloyd’s market
  • Good knowledge of Lloyd’s principles, including Conduct Risk, Financial Crime, GDPR, fraud and sanctions
  • Well-versed in the unique characteristics and trends of the UK general insurance market
  • Strong understanding of claims processes, bordereau reporting (BDX) and loss funds
