Job Description:

Job Title: Principal DevOps Engineer (Hybrid Platform & CI/CD Focus)

Location: Remote (Must be based in The UK)

Salary: £95,000 – £105,000

We’re looking for a hands-on Principal DevOps Engineer to join a growing platform team, focused on building and evolving CI/CD and delivery systems across a hybrid cloud and on-premise environment.

This is not a typical cloud-native or Kubernetes role. The focus is on Docker-based workloads, build tooling, and developer platform engineering within a hybrid infrastructure.

You’ll play a key role in designing and building CI/CD pipelines, developer tooling, and infrastructure platforms used across multiple engineering teams.

This is a high-autonomy role, where you’ll be expected to take ownership of platform components, contribute to technical direction, and improve how software is built, tested, and deployed.

The Role

  • Designing and building CI/CD pipelines and delivery systems (GitHub Actions preferred)
  • Developing reusable workflows, pipeline templates, and build frameworks
  • Working with Docker (including Compose) to support consistent development and production environments
  • Building and maintaining Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or Ansible) across hybrid environments
  • Supporting and evolving build tooling (for example .NET CLI or MSBuild, Maven, Gradle)
  • Improving developer experience, deployment speed, and platform reliability
  • Working across both cloud and on-premise systems (VMware, datacentres, etc.)

Skills Needed:

  • Strong experience building and owning CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks
  • Deep experience with Docker (ideally Docker Compose, multi-stage builds, optimisation)
  • Experience with build tooling such as:
  • .NET CLI or MSBuild
  • Maven or Gradle
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform or similar Infrastructure-as-Code tools
  • Experience working in hybrid environments (cloud and on-premise infrastructure)
  • Ability to design solutions, not just implement them and explain trade-offs
  • Comfortable working with high autonomy and ownership

What This Role Is NOT

  • Not a Kubernetes-focused role (Kubernetes is not part of the environment)
  • Not a pure cloud-native or microservices platform role
  • Not a consulting-style position. We’re looking for engineers who build and own systems, not just advise

Research indicates that men will apply to a role when they meet only 50–60% of the requirements, while women and other underrepresented groups often look for a 90–100% match. If this role excites you but you don’t tick every single box, please still apply. We’d love to hear from you.
