Consultant Adult Psychiatrist – Low Secure Unit

Opportunity to join Bodmin Hospital’s Low Secure Unit as a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry, providing clinical leadership and care for detained male patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist for detained male patients on Bowman ward within a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Serve as Responsible Clinician for the care of 8 inpatients and as access assessor for Cornwall patients referred via the CAMBIO bed flow system.
  • Provide clinical leadership to the Bowman Low Secure Unit team, Cornwall secure services, and represent Cornwall Partnership Trust regionally with the Southwest provider collaborative.
  • Take part in the on‑call rota, covering general Consultant Psychiatrist duties.
  • Based at Bodmin Hospital.

Person Specification

  • Recognised Medical Degree.
  • Full GMC Registration.
  • Inclusion (or eligibility for inclusion) on the Specialist Register or a Specialty Trainee within 6 months of gaining CCT.
  • Eligibility for Section 12 and AC Approval.
  • Relevant higher degree (e.g., MD, PhD, MSc) or other additional clinical qualifications.
  • Completion of Clinical and Educational Supervisor Training.

Experience

  • Assessing and treating mental health patients in out‑patient and community settings.
  • Evidence of participation in CPD.
  • Prior experience working in a rehabilitation service.
  • Experience working across different mental health services.
  • Relevant experience in specific psychological therapies.
  • Qualification or experience in managing physical illness.

Skills

  • Leadership experience in multidisciplinary teams, ensuring high‑quality care and staff morale.
  • Strong time‑management and prioritisation skills.
  • Ability to appraise own performance.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Evidence of achievements that demonstrate leadership skills.

Salary

£109,725 – £145,478 per annum plus on‑call allowances.
