Robotics Design Engineer – Overview
We are seeking a full‑time Robotics Design Engineer to join the Oxford Robotics Institute (ORI), an independent institute within the Dept of Engineering Science in central Oxford.
Scope of the Role
The role spans the entire concept‑to‑deployment process, supporting academics and researchers in projects such as developing long‑term autonomy, adapting wheeled and legged robots to challenging environments, and developing bespoke electronic designs.
Responsibilities
- Develop complex electro‑mechanical hardware and systems integration to create working prototypes.
- Work with software such as Linux, ROS, and Python.
- Design, build, program, test, and maintain a large fleet of robots and systems.
- Provide L2/L3 hardware support for the MSc in Autonomous Robotics course.
- Provide hardware support during field trials, overseeing robotic platforms from both a technical and health & safety standpoint.
Qualifications
Professional experience developing complex electro‑mechanical hardware and systems integration to create working prototypes; familiarity with software such as Linux, ROS, and Python.
Salary
£39,424 to £47,779 per annum (Grade 7).
