Background
St Andrew’s Centre, Broomfield Hospital, and its satellite sites offer a well‑stocked medical library with a Medline facility, audio‑visual teaching aids, and a full‑time librarian.
There is a thriving Postgraduate Medical Centre with regular clinical meetings and a general education programme.
Responsibilities
- Provide a specialist clinical service in General Plastic Surgery and Burns at St Andrew’s Centre, Broomfield Hospital and its satellite sites.
- Conduct and lead clinically relevant research to improve patient outcomes, collaborating with local and national university facilities and the clinical forum at St Andrew’s Centre.
- Deliver the total clinical care of referred patients, including administrative duties, complete record keeping, and maintaining good communication with patients and their general practitioners.
- Collaborate positively with colleagues to provide effective clinical leadership for all staff in the Plastic Surgery Service.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teamwork, including out‑of‑hours consultant cover and cover arrangements during colleagues’ annual or study leave.
- Undertake regular ward rounds.
- Participate in clinical audit and in continuing professional education.
- Supervise, teach, train and support professional development of junior medical staff, nurses, and medical students, contributing to the design and approval of training posts.
- Maintain high standards of care for the service, reporting to the Medical Director, Chief Executive, and Chairman and Board of the Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust.
- Take advantage of study leave to maintain and develop clinical skills in compliance with CME requirements.
