Job Overview
A Local Authority in Wales is seeking an experienced Petroleum & Explosives Officer to support the delivery of statutory duties relating to the inspection, licensing, and enforcement of petroleum storage sites and explosives storage premises across the authority's area. This is a specialist regulatory role suited to an experienced officer who can work autonomously, manage their own caseload, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out inspections of petroleum storage sites, including petrol filling stations and private petroleum storage premises.
- Inspect and monitor explosives storage sites, including fireworks, ammunition, and other licensed explosives.
- Issue, review, and enforce petroleum and explosives licences in line with statutory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, guidance, and codes of practice.
- Provide technical advice to businesses, licence holders, and internal stakeholders.
- Investigate complaints, incidents, and non‑compliance, taking appropriate enforcement action where required.
- Prepare inspection reports, licence documentation, and enforcement notices.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to regulatory databases and systems.
- Liaise with internal departments, emergency services, and external agencies as necessary.
