The opportunity
This role sits at the institutional and markets end of Payward’s compliance function. You will own the compliance programme for a defined cluster of regulated activities covering obligations under the Financial Services (Jersey) Law 1998 and the Control of Borrowing (Jersey) Order, alongside tokenised asset issuance. You’ll report to the UK Chief Compliance Officer and work closely with legal, product and operations teams across Payward’s institutional business.
Responsibilities
- Tokenised Assets Compliance
- Work with Group Compliance to evolve the compliance framework for Payward’s tokenised asset and issuance activities, focusing on institutional‑grade structures and distribution models.
- Oversee AML and compliance activities: develop policies and procedures, client onboarding, transaction monitoring, risk mitigation and adverse event reporting.
- Support onboarding and oversight of institutional distribution partners, ensuring appropriate KYC/AML due diligence and contractual frameworks.
- Monitor regulatory developments related to tokenised securities and real‑world assets across relevant jurisdictions (JFSC, FCA and others).
- Advise on product design and structuring, ensuring tokenisation models reflect underlying asset characteristics and comply with regulations.
- Provide compliance input across the full product lifecycle, from structuring and issuance to secondary market trading and disclosures.
- Collaborate with product, legal and institutional teams to assess regulatory perimeter risks early in design.
- Institutional Business Advisory
- Provide first‑line compliance support for institutional and markets‑facing teams: new products, business development, due diligence, and financial promotions in a non‑retail context.
- Identify regulatory perimeter questions early and work through them with legal and product.
- Governance & Reporting
- Prepare compliance MI and reporting for board committees, the Jersey Board and JFSC‑required materials.
- Maintain policies, procedures and controls documentation aligned to group‑level frameworks.
- Contribute to cross‑functional workstreams where tokenised asset expertise is required.
Skills you should HODL
- Solid working knowledge of Jersey financial services law: the Financial Services (Jersey) Law 1998, the Control of Borrowing (Jersey) Order, and the JFSC regulatory framework.
- Familiarity with the JFSC’s tokenised asset regulation and related VASP regime, or the ability to learn rapidly.
- Experience running or contributing to a compliance programme in a regulated financial services business, ideally with institutional or wholesale markets exposure.
- Comfort with multi‑jurisdictional complexity and ability to maintain a full regulatory picture.
- Ability to work with genuine ambiguity: make sound judgments without a ready‑made playbook.
- Strong written communication skills for committee papers, regulatory correspondence and policy documentation.
- Self‑directed with clear escalation judgement.
Nice to haves
- Direct experience with tokenised securities, RWA issuance or structured digital asset products.
- Prior engagement with the JFSC (supervisory requests, consultations, onsite reviews).
- Exposure to MiCA, UK MiFID or comparable trading venue regulatory frameworks.
- Experience supporting multi‑jurisdictional regulatory engagement or consultations.
