Principal / Senior Process Engineer

The WSP Mining & Minerals business is looking to employ a Principal / Senior Process Engineer with sector specific transferable skills to undertake a role supporting engineering studies and engineering for small to large scale mineral processing plants projects in a multi‑discipline environment.

A degree in mineral processing, chemical engineering or mineral engineering is required.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide process engineering services on mineral processing projects to WSP and its clients, including technical support and supervision within the process engineering team.

Experience in some or all of the following process areas is desirable:

  • Crushing and grinding
  • Materials handling including feeders and screens
  • Physical and chemical separation techniques
  • Hydrometallurgy
  • Leaching, precipitation and solid liquid separation
  • Solid and liquid waste handling, including tailings

Expected to have a wide range of mineral and metals commodity experience, typically including the treatment of iron ore, coal, base metals, precious metals and industrial minerals.

Development of metallurgical circuit design and selection based on testwork and selection of circuit configuration and size of major equipment is essential.

The candidate will undertake development of necessary engineering documentation including process design basis, process flow diagrams, mass balance, P&IDs, sizing of process equipment, process calculations, specifications, hazard assessment and control philosophy.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Engineering Geology (postgraduate qualification desirable).
  • Strong understanding of ground behaviour, soil and rock mechanics, and geotechnical risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and lead multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to travel within the UK and internationally.
