What if being a vet meant having the time to truly care?
At Paws Indoors, our days aren’t about squeezing in as many consults as possible. Instead, we’ve created a way of working that lets vets slow down, listen, investigate properly, and form genuine relationships with pets and their owners.
We’re an independent mobile veterinary practice serving Norwich and the surrounding Norfolk countryside, bringing veterinary care directly into pets’ homes. Our approach allows us to see animals in the environment where they are most comfortable, while also giving our vets the space to practise thoughtful, relationship-based medicine.
With fewer daily appointments, a supportive team, and a culture that prioritises work-life balance and clinical autonomy, this is a role for a vet who wants to enjoy their work again.
Paws Indoors was founded over 20 years ago by Rosie, who at the time was raising three young children. When she asked her practice if she could reduce her hours, the answer was no. Rather than give up the career she loved, she decided to do things differently.
Rosie started visiting pets in their homes, providing calm, unhurried consultations, and building lasting relationships with owners. What began as a small mobile service has grown into a thriving independent practice with a loyal client base and a team of 3 experienced GP vets, 2 RVNs and 3 support staff, working together from a small but well-equipped surgical base in Hempnall.
Despite our growth, we’ve kept the ethos that started it all: flexibility, kindness, and looking after the people who care for our patients. Our team is close-knit and genuinely supportive. We share knowledge openly, discuss cases together, and run regular clinical meetings, and it’s always okay to say, “I need another pair of hands.”
We are also very excited to announce that we are transitioning the practice to an Employee Ownership Trust. This means that all employees will have a stake in the business and anyone interested in management or leadership will have the opportunity to do so if they wish.
Most of our work is mobile, visiting pets across rural Norfolk and the Norwich area. This transforms veterinary care in remarkable ways:
A busy day would be 8 appointments - but often there are fewer, allowing plenty of time between appointments for follow-up, research, and checking in with clients by phone.
Our Hempnall surgery supports mobile work with digital X-ray, ultrasound, dental machine, in-house lab, and laser therapy. We perform routine surgeries, including neutering, dentals, lump removals, and exploratory procedures, with support from visiting specialists in ultrasound and endoscopy. We also have great relationships with local referral centres, including Grove Referrals, Debenham Vets and Dick White Referrals.
Here is what some of our wonderful team have to say about working with us:
'There is generally a longer time allowed for consultations than in static practice and being invited into clients’ homes gives a great insight into the home environment and lifestyle of each patient which can allow a more tailored approach to care and monitoring of ongoing conditions. We have regular practice meetings allowing excellent practice wide communication and being a smaller team, this allows rapid implementation of agreed changes or improvements to practice policies and procedures. We also have regular clinical meetings with the vets and nurses which provide an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues over cases and discuss new drugs or developments. An effective sat nav and a sense of humour plus a sharp eye for hidden house names/numbers helps (I have found that house numbers on wheelie bins are especially helpful at times!)' - Shona, MRCVS
''I’ve been working at Paws Indoors Mobile Vets for almost four years now, and what I value most is the continuity of care we’re able to provide. Building long-term relationships with both pets and their owners is incredibly rewarding and allows for a much more personal, tailored approach to veterinary care. Working in owners' homes creates a calmer, more relaxed environment, which benefits both the animals and their owners. It gives me the time and space to really listen, thoroughly assess each patient, and deliver a high standard of care that I feel proud of. I also feel very lucky to work alongside such a supportive team. We all share the same values and genuinely care about each other, our patients, and their owners. We work well together, support one another, and that sense of teamwork makes a real difference to both our day‑to‑day work and the care we provide. It’s a genuinely fulfilling way to practice veterinary medicine.'' - Lesley, MRCVS
We are also known locally for providing gentle, compassionate palliative care and in-home euthanasia. Supporting pets and owners during these moments, in the comfort of their own home, is deeply rewarding and one of the most meaningful parts of the role.
We’re looking for an experienced, confident, and self‑motivated vet who is comfortable working independently in clients’ homes, knowing that support and an extra pair of hands are always available when needed. An interest in medicine, behaviour, palliative care, or client‑centred practice will fit particularly well with our approach and the way we work.
Our vets share consulting and operating duties, providing plenty of time to use all your skills and experience to deliver thoughtful, high‑quality care. Strong communication skills and a genuine love for building lasting client relationships are essential, as is a UK driving licence with access to a vehicle.
Even though the role offers autonomy, you’ll always feel supported. Whether it’s a tricky case or a sensitive consultation, our close‑knit team is always there to lend a hand
This role is perfect for a vet who wants a sustainable, enjoyable schedule while still practising the medicine they were trained to love.
Even though much of our work is mobile, we’re a close-knit team. We celebrate birthdays with afternoon teas, host summer get-togethers, and organise fun Christmas activities — everything from wreath‑making to self‑defence classes. These moments help us stay connected, share experiences, and have fun together.
Our practice is based about 10 miles south of Norwich, a historic and vibrant city recently named one of the happiest places to live in the UK. Norwich offers a lively arts and music scene, theatres, independent restaurants, and charming historic streets, while the beautiful Norfolk Broads are just 40 minutes away, and the stunning North Norfolk coast is within an hour. Most of your travel between home visits is through peaceful countryside, one of the quieter joys of mobile practice.
We’d love to tell you more about life at Paws Indoors. Give us a call for an informal chat or apply now to join our close‑knit, supportive team.
