Join Our Team as a Litigation Lawyer

Are you ready to take the next step in your legal career? Lancashire County Council’s Legal and Governance Service is seeking an experienced Litigation Lawyer to play a vital role in our high‑performing, collaborative team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a diverse and stimulating caseload, providing specialist advice and representation across a broad range of civil litigation matters. Your work will span personal injury, employers’ and public liability, industrial disease, data protection, Human Rights Act claims, judicial review and inquests—making this a role with real variety, challenge and impact.

What you’ll be doing

  • Manage your own caseload of litigated and pre‑litigated matters
  • Draft legal documents including defences, advices and detailed witness evidence
  • Liaise confidently with counsel, the Coroner and internal stakeholders
  • Undertake your own advocacy at case management conferences and preliminary hearings
  • Provide timely, practical, solution‑focused legal advice to services across the Council

Who we’re looking for

You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with proven litigation experience—ideally within local government or a comparable environment. You’ll bring:

  • Strong knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules
  • Experience drafting complex legal documents
  • Confidence advising on judicial review pre‑action matters
  • The ability to handle sensitive or high‑value claims, particularly those involving Children’s and Adult Services
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently under pressure

Benefits and Working Conditions

  • Hybrid working (County Hall, Preston, with flexibility to work from home)
  • A generous benefits package, including a high‑quality pension scheme and competitive annual leave
  • A supportive, inclusive work culture built on our core values: supportive, innovative, respectful and collaborative
  • The chance to contribute meaningfully to the communities we serve

If you’re motivated, proactive and passionate about delivering high‑quality legal services, we’d love to hear from you.
