Engagement Managers are the on‑scene leaders who run our projects day to day. You will lead the team through an efficient and effective problem‑solving process from initial thought process through convergence on a solution. You will ensure that recommendations are correct, practical, sensible, relevant, and cohesive. The role demands thought leadership at the strategic level – and command of all the technical and operational details of execution. You will need great communication skills and the ability to forge strong relationships. As an Engagement Manager in M&A, you might lead a due diligence process to support an investment decision or lead a workstream to shape the design of integrated companies after an integration. You will manage a team of consultants and confront senior clients to share insights and recommendations.
Principals are experts in particular content areas and provide day‑to‑day leadership of complex client projects and aspects of the client relationship and commercial process, teaming with Partners. They ensure on‑time delivery that meets or exceeds agreed‑upon goals, leveraging Oliver Wyman best practice, their own expertise and the firm’s technical competence. They become trusted advisors to senior clients, with the ability to guide and influence their thinking and to be viewed as experts in particular content areas. As a Principal in M&A, you will play a broad and diverse role, ranging from client coverage and identification of deal ideas to leading pre‑deal engagements and advising clients on how they proceed, and through to orchestrating complex post‑deal integration or carve‑out processes to deliver lasting value for the client. Principals develop others and build a strong personal brand both within and outside the firm.
