You will play a pivotal role in how Progress Together shows up publicly – helping shape our voice, campaigns and external profile while driving prospect growth and member engagement.
This is an outward-facing, hands‑on role combining communications, external affairs and marketing. You will not only help shape strategy but deliver it – ensuring our work translates into visibility, engagement and new member interest.
Key focus areas
- External positioning and stakeholder engagement
- Campaign marketing and execution
- Audience growth and member acquisition
- Regional events and visibility
Key responsibilities
External affairs and stakeholder engagement
- Develop and deliver our external affairs and communications plan (including owning the content calendar) aligned to our wider Communications, Marketing and Lobbying strategy.
- Build relationships and communicate with regulators, trade bodies, policymakers, journalists and sector influencers.
- Identify engagement opportunities to position Progress Together in policy and industry conversations.
- Horizon scan political and media developments on a regular basis.
- Conduct background research to feed into our consultation responses, policy letters and formal submissions.
Marketing, audience growth and newsletters
- Own audience growth across channels, linking communications activity to member acquisition.
- Lead external newsletters and targeted communications to nurture prospects and external stakeholders.
- Ensure campaign is marketed in a way that helps convert engagement into membership interest.
- Ensure clear and consistent value proposition across all outward-facing communications.
Regional events and prospect engagement
- Own delivery of external and regional events as a key growth channel.
- Plan and execute events end-to-end, including content, logistics and stakeholder coordination.
- Use events to attract new members and strengthen political and sector engagement.
- Ensure events deliver measurable outcomes and ongoing engagement.
Digital profile
- Own our digital strategy and delivery including our website and LinkedIn – particularly for prospects. This includes full ownership of any external content being posted online.
- Create compelling, senior-level content and identify amplification opportunities.
- Brief and liaise with the Digital Marketing and Brand Officer on content creation for LinkedIn and the website.
- Monitor engagement and refine approach based on performance.
Insight, measurement and impact
- Track and report performance across campaigns, events and channels.
- Measure engagement and conversion into member interest and pipeline growth.
- Maintain clear reporting on visibility, influence and growth impact.
- Use insight to continuously improve effectiveness.
About you
You are a confident action-oriented communicator with a strong sense of ownership. You are as comfortable developing marketing strategies as day‑to‑day execution of communications plans.
You will likely bring:
- At least 3‑4 years’ experience in senior communications or marketing roles.
- Strong writing skills across communications or policy content.
- Experience engaging senior stakeholders or external partners.
- Experience delivering campaigns and/or external events.
- A proactive, can‑do mindset with strong organisational skills.
- Ability to connect communications activity to growth and impact.
- Good judgement on tone, positioning and reputational risk.
- Understanding of political or regulatory context (desirable).
Working arrangements
We are a predominantly remote organisation operating across multiple shared office spaces, including locations in London, rather than from a single permanent office.
This role requires in‑person attendance in London approximately two days per week, scheduled according to organisational need. This may involve attending events, external meetings or colleague collaboration. This is an ongoing expectation rather than occasional travel.
There will also be a full team day in London once per month, and occasional travel elsewhere in the UK for events or meetings.
We operate as a dispersed team, working flexibly while coming together in person where collaboration and member activity require it. Candidates should be comfortable working independently while maintaining a consistent in‑person London presence.
